This week our blog is featuring Support Services IT Dispatch, Chris Clements! Check out below to learn more about Chris and what he's up to in and out of Springthrough!
How long have you been working for Springthrough?I have been working at Springthrough since late 2014 (October).
How did you get into IT/ Software development?
I would imagine my path is similar to others in that I had been building my own home systems and been an avid gamer for years. Technology has always interested me so on a whim I applied for a position with a company called CDW back in 2013 and have been involved in the industry since.
What is the technology/tech stack that you like to use the most and why?
VMware and Hyper-V. Virtualization has always intrigued me and as these solutions evolve they continue to impress.
What is your favorite Springthrough memory?
One of my favorites is of a ping pong tournament we had last year. We had just about the whole company involved which was nice to spend time with colleagues that one might not have on a daily basis.
What is the most interesting job you’ve ever had that was not IT/ Software development related?
When I was younger I worked for MDOT over a summer cataloguing road conditions/signs all across the state. My position required that I photograph specific locations from the U.P. down to the Michigan/Indiana/Ohio boarders. This was pretty amazing for an 18 year old kid. Who doesn’t like being given a Jeep to drive, unlimited gas card, minimal supervision, and let us not forget the incredible “cell phone-in-a-bag!”
Tell us something your teammates don’t know about you.
I have a love for anything dealing with engineering. I often find myself building and/or designing in my spare time. Recently (over the last few years) I have been woodworking and restoring vintage motorcycles. I also enjoy Halloween quite a bit (see picture!).
What is your favorite local restaurant / bar?
A few of my favorites places are Noto's Old World Italian Dining, Brewery Vivant, and the Garage Bar & Grill. All three have wonderful food menu’s and are very welcoming.
If you could meet a famous person alive or dead, who would that be?
Salvador Dali and Ernest Hemingway….just imagine the stories!
What was the last book you read?
Exam 70-346: Managing Office 365 Identities and Requirements. I know VERY exciting!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Always have a firm handshake and look them in the eye when you are meeting someone for the first time. First impressions matter.
